theamityvillehorror_146x216T5HHM-Articlepic-1Everything seems great for the Lutz family when they move into their new colonial house in the idyllic town of Amityville New York, but their dream quickly turns into a nightmare when mysterious and frightening things start to happen, but has the evil in the house affected them beyond redemption when they learn its horrific history?

Adapted from a bestselling book which is in turn inspired by true the story of the real-life Lutzes who claimed to have experienced many of the paranormal events in the film, perhaps the most disturbing inspiration for the true story and the film is the fact that the real house was where the infamous ‘DeFeo Murders’ took place where Ronald DeFeo murdered his entire family as they slept.

Critically panned after its release, ‘The Amityville Horror’ soon found a cult audience and then a general one that made it one of the most successful independent films of its era, a creepy horror classic that inspired a genre and a slew of sequels & remakes, not to mention featuring one of the most iconic haunted houses in film history.

Directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starring James Brolin, Margot Kidder and Rod Steiger among others.

Genre: Horror, Drama
