Cast: Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Tony Revolori…and more
Writers: Stefan Zweig, Wes Anderson, Hugo Guinness
If you are a fan of the Wes Anderson cinematic universe you can expect all of the usual elements in this film, if not then expect an original storyline full of quirky characters and dialogue, loads of comedy and a unique visual style typical of an Anderson production.
The story is set in a fictional country heavily inspired by early 20th Century Prussia (German territories) where the renown Grand Budapest Hotel provides a platform for a comedy-adventure thriller resulting from the death of a rich and powerful elderly lady.
Central to the film is the array of quirky and varied comedic characters lead by a strong performance from Ralph Fiennes as the hotel Concierge and the comedy ensues from the dialogue and interaction between them.
If you’re a fan of Wes Anderson this will be an enjoyable film with many of the elements from his previous films like The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou but perhaps not quite as memorable, if you’re not familiar with Mr. Anderson’s work don’t expect a typical Hollywood comedy and we recommend you watch his previous films mentioned here as well as this film itself.
