The 12A Rating for this film suggests that you should not expect a particularly gritty or profound film despite being set in World War II and if you watch with that in mind you can expect an entertaining if not memorable movie experience.
Set during the final year of World War II, The Monuments Men is a story of a group of middle-aged men from several of the then allied power nations, set with the task of protecting priceless pieces of art from allied bombardment and theft by the Nazi’s and returning them to their rightful owners.
The film stars an all-star cast featuring among others the likes of George Clooney and Bill Murray and is an adventure comedy drama in the vein of classics like The Guns of Navarone and The Dirty Dozen, unfortunately it does not live up to them due to a disjointed and often predictable storyline and over-sentimental moments.
Although not a classic by any standard, The Monuments Men is an entertaining enough watch if you’re looking for a light movie experience with an all-star ensemble cast.
