Scientists awaken something ancient and huge with disastrous consequences for humanity, director Gareth Edwards brings us his interpretation of the sci-fi monster movie classic Godzilla starring Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Nowhere Boy).
Expect everything you might from a modern adaptation of a movie monster classic with this version of Godzilla, huge action sequences with impressive CGI and wanton destruction of cities, best of all massive monsters fighting dirty.
Where this Godzilla improves on the 1998 Roland Emmerich version is a more considered storyline combined with performances from a strong cast and faithful adherence to its Japanese origins.
Don’t expect non-stop destruction as the action is broken up by moments of emotional context and reflection giving the film a bit of a stop-start feel, don’t kid yourself though as there is plenty of action and an epic finale making Godzilla a thoroughly entertaining way to spend a couple of hours.
