Multi award-wining Senna is a documentary from British Filmmaker Asif Kapadia chronicling the life and times of the late-great Brazilian Formula 1 racing legend and sport superstar Ayrton Senna.
The film seamlessly combines archive footage from races, interviews and news coverage with more recent interviews with everyone that impacted Senna’s life, from family to team principals like Ron Dennis and Frank Williams, fellow drivers and indeed bitter rivals like Alain Prost and former F1 boss Jean-Marie Balestre.
This film is a fascinating view into the mind of a racing driver and in particular one considered perhaps the most naturally talented of all, it follows the man from childhood until his tragic death in Imola 1994 and shows a complex character who was both a superstar playboy as well as a driven competitor, humanitarian and pride of a nation.
Senna does what all good documentaries tend to do which is both inform and encourage an emotional connection with a cause or character, highly recommended whether you are an F1 fan or not and well deserving of all the international acclaim it has received.
