Director Bryan Singer returns to the X-Men helm to unite the casts from the original films and the prequel X-Men: First Class in an epic time-travel adventure blockbuster.
Wolverine bridges the gap between a post-apocalyptic future where both mutants and humans are being exterminated, and the early 1970s where he is sent to join the young X-Men and prevent a series of events from leading to global catastrophe.
X-Men: Days of Future Past has all the elements of a summer comic-book blockbuster and is a welcome improvement on the prequel X-Men: First Class from 2011. Singer does as good a job as can be expected with the introduction of a time-travel element that thankfully only provides a couple of “How’s that gonna work?” moments, there is enough change in the past to keep you hooked on what may happen in the future X-Men films to come.
The characters and their powers are also more interesting and well-defined than in the previous film and are brought to life by strong performances, particularly from Fassbender and McAvoy.
Although not an instant classic, X-Men: Days of Future Past is a triumphant return for Bryan Singer to the glory of the first 2 X-Men movies and a thoroughly enjoyable film experience.
