A top L.A. chef in a creative slump loses his job and reputation through bad social-media etiquette only to take a food truck across America and in the process find himself and fix his relationship with his son.
John Favreau (Swingers, Iron Man) writes, directs and stars with an eclectic cast including his Marvel colleagues Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. as well as John Leguizamo and Sofía Vergara, Chef is a “Foodie’s” wet dream and a love letter to cooking wrapped in a charming and emotional comedy.
Some of the food preparation scenes can best be described as “food-porn” and will leave you hungry 30 minutes into the movie, the music in the film is as important as the food and will get you toe-tappin’ to the rhythms of soul & funk and plenty of Latin Jazz and Mambo, we strongly suggest you check out the soundtrack.
Although the “man finds himself after a setback” storyline is a little formulaic, the mixture of the visuals, performances and music give this film a full flavour just like the food, ultimately Chef is a Favreau-masterminded delight.
