Adventurer, thief and Galactic rogue Peter Quill is hunted across the corners of space after discovering a powerful and dangerous artifact and is forced to join forces with an unlikely group of dangerous characters to save the universe from a dangerous fanatic.
Guardians is an unashamed summer comic-book blockbuster on an epic scale with many of the successful character and comedic elements that made Avengers Assemble such a huge hit for Marvel Studios.
Don’t expect a particularly profound or original storyline and the film struggles with the introduction a myriad of new characters and worlds while establishing tone and storyline all within a 2 hour time-frame, despite this the mix of comedy and action is as effective as in the Avengers movie as is the mix of characters.
Pretty much every major character in the film has at least a few film-stealing moments, the casting of Chris Pratt as Quill/Star-Lord is inspired as is the rest of the cast really, the soundtrack itself is perhaps one of the most important characters in the film and is somehow totally appropriate while being completely unexpected.
Although it may not bother the ranks of greatest comic-book films or qualify as an instant classic, Guardians of the Galaxy is a comedy-packed comic-book space romp for the whole family to enjoy, and a breath of fresh air for this young and evolving genre.
