Brad Pitt stars as a battle-hardened US Army Sergeant leading his Tank crew in the dying days of World War II through the desperate but dangerous final resistance of Nazi Germany.
Written and Directed by David Ayer (Training Day, End of Watch), ‘Fury’ is as expected an action packed and gritty drama with all the brutal elements that you might expect from a modern depiction of World War II experiences , it faithfully follows the essential elements of World War II storytelling as set by the likes of Spielberg and Terrence Malick.
It is because of this that the film ultimately disappoints, ‘Fury’ offers nothing new in terms of dramatic content and the effect of war on soldiers and society around them, indeed even in terms of the action and brutality there is nothing new apart from the set pieces that result in focusing entirely on Tank warfare.
Make no mistake, as a gritty action film ‘Fury’ is a visceral and captivating experience laced with humour and is well worth a trip to the cinema, but ultimately the drama is unoriginal and unconvincing and at times the action is more Rambo than Saving Private Ryan.
