In an ongoing effort to help aspiring filmmakers and promote independent films, particularly those struggling with distribution and releases, we periodically feature films in our “Indie Spotlight” series for your consideration.
The lives of two local lads in south-east England intersect through violence and abandonment as the weight of their worlds comes down on them in this “micro-budget” social drama “Indie” from writer/director Adam Nelson.
Nelson’s feature-film directorial debut is a very low budget local production that takes advantage of his contacts from teaching film-making at the local college in terms of locations and crew, ‘Little Pieces’ is understandably very raw and looks like an amateur film, particularly in terms of production design, but what it lacks in resources it makes up for with ambition telling a non-linear contemporary tale in fragmented sections, or the “Little Pieces” that make up real life.
The decision to tell a fragmented story which jumps between end, beginning and middle is a bold one, particularly given the lack of resources to implement techniques which show time differences in the narrative, but the climax of the film makes everything clear and your are left with a story about addiction, rejection, the cycle of violence and redemption within a narrow local context but easy to relate to in the wider scope of Western society.
‘Little Pieces’ will be available to buy & rent on IndieReign on the 6th of June.

#TriviaTuesday: A cost-cutting insect-like suit was the early design for the alien hunter in 1987's 'Predator'—unsuccessfully worn by the character's first actor Jean-Claude Van Damme—but it was ditched for a now iconic Stan Winston design at twice the price. Money well spent. pic.twitter.com/pvbTmpgUIB
#TriviaTuesday: ‘Big Kahuna Burger’ is most certainly the fictional fast food of choice in the Tarantinoverse, appearing or referenced in 'Reservoir Dogs', 'From Dusk Till Dawn', 'Death Proof', 'Four Rooms', as well as its starring turn in 1994’s 'Pulp Fiction' of course. pic.twitter.com/k3xVsbDuA6
