As usual we agree as much as we disagree with BAFTA’s choices this year, although certainly a nuanced and accomplished film from director Todd Haynes, we’re slightly baffled by ‘Carol’s’ nominations dominance, but not as baffled as the general lack of nominations for one of the very best films of the year ‘Sicario’.
It’s also quite painfully clear that to BAFTA, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and ‘Inside Out’ are just another pair of action and animated films.
The movement for female “empowerment” in Hollywood has been moved forward somewhat with female-led movies being better represented in the nominations, and justifiably as they have been some of the most memorable films of the last 12 months.
Let’s see how things play out on the night, we’ve given our picks on who we think should win but there are, as always, many films in 2015 that are not nominated but deserve recognition.
Let us know what you think of the BAFTA nominations and our picks.
