The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards took place in Beverly Hills on Sunday night with all the usual glitz, glamour and red-carpet frenzy that comes with it, there was also the small matter of recognizing the great work done for TV and Film in 2016 and here at FilmPhonic we give you a recap on the Film nominees and winners this year.
The expected award contenders, which are mostly January & February 2017 releases in UK cinemas, were well represented with films like ‘Manchester By The Sea’, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Lion’ picking up several nominations each, but it was Damien Chazelle’s delightful Hollywood musical ‘La La Land’ who stole the show, winning a record-breaking 7 Gold statuettes.
It was also a highly politicized evening in the wake of the recent US elections, with more political speeches than a Democratic or Republican party convention. No doubt an opportunity for stars to vent some frustration and intended to bring people together, although like everything else recently it will probably serve to further divide an already split nation and amounts to little more than preaching to the converted.
Nevertheless there were several awards given out for excellent work over the last 12 months, so let’s breakdown the Film nominees and winners this year.

As usual let’s all remember that film criticism is subjective and we all have our opinions on who should win what and why, the important thing is that the majority of the nominees at these shows deserve recognition for great work done, but no more than the many who often do not feature at all.
