The rising temperatures which usually usher in a mixed bag of releases and disappointing blockbusters was largely avoided this year, thanks to more interesting smaller scale films like disturbing indie horror ‘Hereditary‘, Rupert Everett’s Oscar Wilde biopic ‘The Happy Prince’ and poignant survivalist family drama ‘Leave No Trace‘.
But as usual the big boys defined the month with varying degrees of success, from the less memorable fare like ‘Ocean’s Eight’ and latest ‘Jurassic’ installment ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘, to a solid sequel in ‘Sicario 2: Soldado‘.

The start of summer signalled the loss among others of diminutive Hollywood veteran Jerry Maren (98) (The Wizard of Oz, At The Circus) and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain (61) (No Reservations, The Big Short), as well as British TV star Leslie Grantham (71) (EastEnders, Shadow Run), genre star Deanna Lund (81) (Land of the Giants, Hammerhead) and British actress Helen Griffin (59) (Doctor Who, The Machine).
