The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards took place in Beverly Hills on Sunday night with all the usual glitz & glamour and red-carpet dress obsession that comes with it, there was also the small matter of people being recognized for the great work they did on TV and Film in 2014 and here at Filmphonic we’ll give you a quick recap on the Movie nominees and winners this year.
When the nominations for this year’s awards were announced in December they were as significant for the great films that were overlooked as they were for the great films that were recognized this year, nevertheless the awards took place last night with several deserving winners and just as many who perhaps deserved recognition but not victory, not to mention of course the many that were snubbed all together.
There was a mixed bag of winners with no one film dominating in any way, perhaps the biggest winner of the night was Richard Linklater’s unique and original drama Boyhood which won 3 major awards, there was some British success as the British press always loves to obsess about with Eddie Redmayne winning big for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
We break down the night’s major movie nominees and winners as well as who we thought should have won from the films officially nominated and our pick of the year’s best overall.

As usual let’s all remember that film criticism is subjective and we all have our opinions on who should win what and why, the important thing is that the majority of the nominees at these shows deserve recognition for great work done, but no more than the many who often do not feature at all.
