The BAFTAs 2015

Spread the love

BAFTAsBanner_575x127

Sunday the 8th of February 2015 saw the biggest night in British cinema come to the Royal Opera House in London with the BAFTAs rolling into town, the usual red carpet scramble was here for everyone to see and actor/writer/comedian extraordinaire Stephen Fry returned for the 10th time to host.

As usual the so-called “race” for trophies featured inevitable front-runners, this year saw Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel perhaps surprisingly lead the field with 11 nominations overall followed by the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory Of Everything with 10.

The results themselves were perhaps unsurprising if a little disappointing, nevertheless all the work recognized this year could not help but be worthy of acclaim given the great year in film so we congratulate Boyhood and The Theory of Everything for winning big tonight.

Once again we must stress that award shows are subjective and we can endlessly debate over who should win what, this is a chance for films and their filmmakers to be recognized for another great year of work so let’s go over who the nominees and winners were this year;

Altogether we tend to agree with most of BAFTA’s nominations for 2015 if not the eventual winners, we would have liked to see Nightcrawler and Whiplash receive more recognition as two of the very best films of the year, however we can’t begrudge any of the winners too much as they were all outstanding pieces of work in their own right.

The next and final stop on the 2014-2015 movie awards route is the big one, the Oscars on the 22nd of February in Hollywood, let’s see how things pan out on that night and how similar they will be to the BAFTAs.

Let us know what you think of the BAFTA nominations and winners as well as our picks.
