Cleopatra & Mark Antony in “Cleopatra” (1963)

Multiple Academy Award-winning historical epic, Elizabeth Taylor stars as queen and last “active” Pharaoh of Egypt Cleopatra in this lavish biopic about her dealings with the changing political rulers of ancient Rome.

After the murder of her previous partner Julius Caesar (Rex Harrison), Cleopatra forms an alliance which blossoms into a love affair with Roman general Mark Antony (Richard Burton) to retain control of Egypt, an ultimately doomed relationship which pits them against Caesar’s young heir apparent and eventual first Emperor of Rome Augustus “Octavian” Caesar.

Ironically Burton & Taylor’s relationship in the film would soon become become a real-life love affair to rival the historical one they were portraying.

Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison among many others.
