Oscar-winning drama chronicling the extraordinary life of New-Yorker and former world middleweight champion Jake LaMotta, whose ferocious reputation in the ring was matched by his unpredictable personality outside of it.
Robert De Niro’s commitment to method acting and attention to detail is evident throughout ‘Raging Bull’, from living and training with LaMotta to learn his mannerisms to the incredible physical transformation from an athlete in peak condition to the older and 60 pounds heavier LaMotta in his club-owner days.
Unsurprisingly De Niro undertook extensive training even fighting in a few competitive Brooklyn bouts and in an example of a “biographical” method he adopted LaMotta’s stalking brawler style, particularly effective on screen when combined with Martin Scorsese’s dramatized but faithful recreation of LaMotta’s fights, when the boxing is combined with the performances and the drama of this tragic tale, the result is quite simply one of the greatest films ever made.
Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro, Cathy Moriarty and Joe Pesci among others.
#TriviaTuesday: A cost-cutting insect-like suit was the early design for the alien hunter in 1987's 'Predator'—unsuccessfully worn by the character's first actor Jean-Claude Van Damme—but it was ditched for a now iconic Stan Winston design at twice the price. Money well spent. pic.twitter.com/pvbTmpgUIB
