Tense drama set in Northern Ireland during the “troubles” starring Daniel Day-Lewis as a boxer and IRA member who tries to rebuild his life after being released from prison, but his decision to shun the IRA and unite his community through boxing puts him on a dangerous collision with the people he went to prison for helping.
We all know how dedicated Daniel Day-Lewis is to his craft and ‘The Boxer’ is perhaps the best example of this, after taking up light training Lewis stepped up his regime and trained like a high-level amateur or even a pro for over a year with several trainers, including former WBO featherweight champion Barry McGuigan who claims that Lewis could have made it as a good amateur or decent pro at middleweight.
The result of all this effort is an utterly convincing performance inside and out of the ring, Lewis looks every inch the tall rangy middleweight with his own orthodox style and his jump-rope training sequences are as impressive as anything you’ll see in a boxing gym, all-in-all another point to add to the list of Daniel Day-Lewis awesomeness.
Directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Emily Watson and Gerard McSorley among others.
Genre: Drama
We’ll see if Michael B. Jordan in ‘Creed’ can trouble our list, out Friday the 15th in the UK so please look out for our review.
#TriviaTuesday: A cost-cutting insect-like suit was the early design for the alien hunter in 1987's 'Predator'—unsuccessfully worn by the character's first actor Jean-Claude Van Damme—but it was ditched for a now iconic Stan Winston design at twice the price. Money well spent. pic.twitter.com/pvbTmpgUIB
#TriviaTuesday: ‘Big Kahuna Burger’ is most certainly the fictional fast food of choice in the Tarantinoverse, appearing or referenced in 'Reservoir Dogs', 'From Dusk Till Dawn', 'Death Proof', 'Four Rooms', as well as its starring turn in 1994’s 'Pulp Fiction' of course. pic.twitter.com/k3xVsbDuA6
