Top 5 Movie Maniacs

#1:

‘Dr. Hannibal Lecter’ in ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ (1991)

MGM

Jonathan Demme’s masterful Oscar-hoarding Thomas Harris adaptation features not only one but two psychotic serial killers, but it’s the whip-smart and highly cultured Baltimore psychiatrist, full-time killer and part-time cannibal ‘Dr. Lecter’ which truly captivated global audiences. Used as a pawn by agent ‘Clarice Starling’ and the F.B.I. to catch active killer ‘Buffalo Bill’, but soon proves who the real chess-master is in this deadly game.

Anthony Hopkins delivers a remarkable Oscar-winning performance that’s gloriously over-the-top and so big it can barely be contained by the silver screen. But there’s a frighteningly manipulative and malevolent quality which can always be seen through the intense eyes of a figure packed with as much brilliance and wickedness as a human vessel can hold, providing us with some of the most iconic scenes in film history and arguably the greatest movie villain of all time.

Directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins and Ted Levine among others.

Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller
