Golden Globe Awards 2020

Spread the love

As usual the new showbiz year kicked off with one of the biggest award ceremonies in the industry’s calendar, as the stars aligned with the global media in Beverly Hills on Sunday for the 77th annual Golden Globe awards, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

Along with all the celeb-watching glitz and glamour came the task of recognising achievements in film and TV over 2019, and this year saw another open field in the film category as Netflix dominated with seventeen combined nominations for ‘Marriage Story’ (6), ‘The Irishman’ (5), ‘The Two Popes’ (4), and ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ (2), only to walk away with just one win.

Manwhile the rest of the awards were spread out evenly among the nominees, with Sam Mendes’ tense World War I drama ‘1917’ and Quentin Tarantino’s singular ode to classic Hollywood’s loss of innocence ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ taking home the big ones. So we here at FilmPhonic recap the night’s film nominees and winners.

As usual let’s all remember that film criticism is subjective and we all have our opinions on who should win what and why, the important thing is that the majority of the nominees at these shows deserve recognition for great work done, but no more than the many who often do not feature at all.
