‘Batman’ (1989)

First film adaptation of the classic comic-book since the 1966 film version of the camp 60s TV series, Michael Keaton stars as “The Dark Knight” whose quest to clean up the streets of Gotham City brings him head to head with Jack Nicholson’s “Joker”, a deranged criminal who will stop at nothing to take over the city.

A film that set the foundation for every superhero film since, visionary director Tim Burton brought his darkly-comic Gothic style to a character that to most people was only associated with a psychedelic and comically camp 60s TV show, much to the disdain of die-hard comic-book fans.

Featuring stylish and over-the-top action sequences, the ultimate Batmobile and an eclectic cast including Oscar-winning legend Jack Nicholson, not to mention a soundtrack by Prince and epic Danny Elfman score, Batman is as original as it is memorable and thoroughly entertaining throughout.
