November continued the trend of strong substantial films to close up the year with biographical dramas taking centre stage, British audiences finally got to see Johnny Depp as notorious Boston gangster “Whitey Bulger” in ‘Black Mass’, as well as Michael Fassbender’s tour-de-force performance as ‘Steve Jobs’. We were also treated to an irresistible Dame Maggie Smith performance in the Alan Bennett autobiographical comedy/drama ‘The Lady in the Van’, as well as the latest Spielberg/Hanks collaboration in the cold war political drama ‘Bridge of Spies’.
The stylish Cate Blanchett lesbian period romance ‘Carol‘ was also released in November, as well as groundbreaking transgender indie comedy/drama ‘Tangerine‘ and the latest Disney/Pixar family animation ‘The Good Dinosaur’.
