April proved to be another eclectic month at the UK cinema; from gripping foreign dramas like ‘Victoria’ and ‘Son of Saul’, to Hollywood blockbusters like the fairy-tale fantasy sequel/spinoff ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’ and Disney’s lavish 21st century live action/animation hybrid version of the classic ‘The Jungle Book’.

Not to be outdone by DC’s entry into the big game, Marvel kicked-off their cinematic year in the UK with their big set-piece ‘Captain America: Civil War’, showing everyone how to pull-off an epic superhero showdown by giving us arguably the most enjoyable and well-rounded “Marvel Cinematic Universe” movie to date. This impressive detour in the MCU’s overarching narrative introduced us to some major new characters while setting a new internal dynamic for the ‘Avengers’, surely for the world’s favorite super-team to overcome as they head towards the struggles of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in 2018.

April saw the passing among others, of veteran tv & movie actress Doris Roberts (90) (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Everybody Loves Raymond) and revered British comedy star Victoria Wood (62) (Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV, Housewife, 49), as well British regular “Bond” director Guy Hamilton (93) (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever). The month also saw the shocking loss of yet another music giant, with the unexpected passing of pop superstar and Oscar-winning composer Prince (57) (Purple Rain, Batman).
