2015 has been a another strong and varied year for film, from comic-book titans and quirky comedies to powerful dramas and captivating indies.
It’s also been a big year for the Action/Adventure blockbuster, from disappointments like ‘Jupiter Ascending’ and ‘Terminator Genisys’ to triumphant box-office goliaths like ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Spectre’, not to mention the most anticipated film ever in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and the brilliant genre re-defining ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.

The Oscar Scramble

January in the UK typically means a bunch of films, some already released in the US at the end of the previous year, coming to UK screens in the lead up to the awards season and the Oscars in particular.
It means we get to see some of the best and most original films of the year in one month, this year was no exception with the likes of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s unique award collector ‘Birdman’ and our pick for best 2014/2015 film Damien Chazelle’s ‘Whiplash’, as well as other films that would impact the Academy Awards.

Sadly but inevitably, every year we lose people who made an impact on the movie industry, January saw the passing among others, of Swedish starlet Anita Ekberg (83) (La Dolce Vita) as well as British stage & screen actor Khan Bonfils (42) (Batman Begins) and British actress Geraldine McEwan (82) (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Magdalene Sisters).
