2014YIF_ArticlePic19After a month full of blockbuster releases August proved to be a mixed month of movies with irreverent comedies like Let’s Be Cops and The Inbetweeners 2 as well as Luc Besson’s sci-fi thriller Lucy and Disney’s cricket/baseball family drama/comedy Million Dollar Arm.

There were also smaller movies that made an impact this month like the dark gritty apocalyptic Guy Pearce drama The Rover and the Marion Cotillard starring French Drama Two Days, One Night.

2014YIF_ArticlePic20August was a tough month for the movie industry with the passing of three movie greats and people who made a huge impact on the screen and beyond.

Film-Noir goddess and screen legend Lauren Bacall (Key Largo, The Mirror Has Two Faces) died of a stroke at 89, we also loss the British film-titan and Oscar winning director/producer/actor Lord Richard Attenborough (Ghandi, Jurassic Park) at the age of 90, “Dickie” as he was affectionately know was not only a movie legend worldwide but a social activist & philanthropist and an all around beautiful soul.

Tragically and shockingly we also lost legendary comedian and Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams (Good Will Hunting, Mrs. Doubtfire) in an apparent suicide at the age of 63, it was common knowledge that Williams battled with addiction and manic-depression but this was a shock nonetheless, when you add the fact that he had just been diagnosed with Parkinson’s it makes it even sadder to think that someone who brought so much joy could be in so much pain that he took that way out.
