The end of summer brought a darker tone to the month’s releases with a slew of dark action dramas and thrillers, Liam Neeson resumed his recent tough-guy trend but in a darker more gritty role in A Walk Among The Tombstones while Denzel Washington went full Charles Bronson with The Equalizer.

We also saw one of the last films starring the late-great Philip Seymour Hoffman in the spy thriller A Most Wanted Man based on the John le Carré novel.

2014YIF_ArticlePic22Towering actor Richard Kiel (The Spy Who Loved Me , Happy Gilmore) famed for playing the henchman Jaws in two James Bond movies died at the age of 74 of heart failure, September also saw the death of acid-tongued comedy legend Joan Rivers (Shrek 2, Spaceballs) from anoxic encephalopathy while in surgery.
